About Stannyfield's Guardian Program
We pride ourselves for building our breeding program in such a way that prioritizes responsible practices that ultimately contribute to the preservation of our beloved breed. As breeders, we make a deep committment to the stewardship of our cherished breed, preserving health, temperament, original purpose and of course, conformation. We work very hard to raise balanced, healthy puppies that thrive with their families as pets, performance athletes (including conformation) and working dogs.
We have structured our breeding program to include Guardianship because it provides us with the opportunity to continue to develop and nurture the lines that formed the foundation of our program, while providing promising show, hunt and breeding prospects with families who raise them exactly as they would a puppy that they purchased outright from us. We don’t wish to have more dogs living with us that we can responsibly raise, which in large part to us means providing them with opportunities to shine in the show ring, field, other performance arenas and of course, as our adored pets. The Guardian approach has worked very well for us and we feel very fortunate that many of our Guardian Families have become good friends who have enjoyed their experience as Stannyfield Guardians.
In a nutshell, here's how Guardianship it works:
Our approved Guardian family takes home a quality baby puppy, slightly older puppy or adult that we believe has promise in the show ring, field and our breeding program.
The puppy fee is significantly reduced to compensate our Guardian family.
On paper, the puppy is registered in our name, however, once the puppy retires from our breeding program, we sign over full ownership to our Guardian family and the dog lives out his/her life with the family he/she has developed a strong bond with.
We "borrow" the puppy/dog for training, dog shows, other performance events (e.g. hunt tests) and breeding purposes. We work with our Stannyfield Guardians to accommodate schedules and make decisions together regarding timing.
If our Guardian family would like to take a spin in the show ring or field as a handler, we do our best to support that effort.
We pay all expenses related to breeding, performance events and training related to the activities that we wish to pursue with the puppy.
Our guardian family is responsible for day-to-day expenses, including annual veterinary care, feeding etc.
