Stannyfield’s Stewardship Program

Breeding and raising dogs is our passion and we make a deep commitment to the stewardship of our cherished breeds. Our decisions and careful planning contribute to our breeding program goals, which are directly related to preserving the historic and genetic integrity of our breeds. Health, temperament, original purpose and conformation are critical elements of that. As breeders, we have a tremendous responsibility and we take that responsibility seriously.

Raising exceptional breeding animals is a big part of our commitment and our Stewardship Program supports that goal. We limit the number of dogs that live with us so that we can raise and care for our dogs responsibly. Our Stewardship Program provides us with the opportunity to partner with, and mentor individuals and families who want to join us in this important and rewarding pursuit. Through this program, we continue to protect and nurture the lines that formed the foundation of our breeding program, while placing promising show, hunt and breeding prospects with like-minded families who love and raise them as their family companions. The families who participate are proud to join us as custodians of our breeds, making their own positive impacts. We are grateful that many of our Stewardship families have become good friends.

Rob and Emily have been so great to work with. Whether you are looking to get fully involved and learn more about the breed and various dog sports, or are just interested in dipping your toes, this is a great program with incredible support from two extremely knowledgeable people; I have been met with so many new experiences and friends that I never would have otherwise. I am so grateful to have had all of them, alongside our Della thanks to Stannyfield!

Here’s how the program works:

  • Our approved Stewardship family takes home a quality baby puppy, slightly older puppy or adult that we believe has promise in the show ring, field and our breeding program. Older dogs may have finished obtaining their titles.

  • An alternative financial arrangement compensates the Stewardship family for their contribution.

  • On paper, the puppy is registered in our name, however, once the puppy retires from our breeding program, we sign over full ownership to our Stewardship family and the dog lives out his/her life with the family he/she has developed a strong bond with.

  • We "borrow" the puppy/dog for training, dog shows, other performance events (e.g. hunt tests) and breeding purposes. We work with our Stewards to accommodate schedules and make decisions together regarding timing.

  • We pay all expenses related to breeding, performance events and training related to the activities that we wish to pursue with the puppy.

  • Our Stewardship family is responsible for day-to-day expenses, including annual veterinary care, feeding etc.

If you are interested in sharing our commitment by becoming a Breed Steward with Stannyfield, please contact us with questions or submit a Steward Application and we will follow up with you.
